About Lotta Löfgren-Mårtenson
BACKGROUND
This homepage contains information about my research and private agency as a researcher, counsellor and
lecturer concerning sexuality and disability. I got a PhD in Science of Social Work and an authorization as a
specialist in clinical sexology. Addionally, I am working as an Associate Professor, with sexological alignment,
at the Faculty of Health and Society atMalmö University , at the Master program in Sexology,
and within the research program: Sexuality, Gender and Social work.
My main profile in the sexology field is in young people with intellectual disabilities (ID). I have worked as
a sex-educator and a counsellor at schools for pupils with ID in the age of 7-21. Within my work as a school
counsellor I initiated and held groups about sexuality with teenagers and young adults.
In my private agency BRUS- Bureau for Counselling and Education in Sexology I have worked, and still work, as a
sexologist with counselling for couples and individuals with ID, and nowadays mostly with lectures and supervising
for staff dealing with sexuality and disabilities.
Additionally, I have written several articles and books of both academically and popular science types, mostly in
Swedish. (Read an

During the last years I am also publishing easy-to-read novels for young people.
LEVCTURES, WORKSHOPS AND COURSES
I have conducted approximately 250 lectures and speeches in the field of sexology and ID since 1993 in different occasions for
example at Schools of Health Sciences at several universities, FUB (The Swedish National Association for Persons with Intellectual
Disability), Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan (a community college), Lafa (Stockholm County Aids Prevention Centre). As a researcher
I have conducted speeches both on national and international conferences.

RESEARCH
Since 1994 I have conducting research in Social Work and Sexology for my Degrees in Master and PhD in Social Science of Social Work.
Except research concerning love and sexuality in the new generation with young people with ID I have also done studies about significances
and consequences of Internet use for love and sexual purposes, one specifically concerning young people with ID.
Other topics of interest are young people and their experiences of pornography and a current study concerning sexual desire in every day life
for men and women in Sweden. Finally, I am conducting a pilot study on sexology as an academic subject and sexologist as a profession.
